Predicted Liverpool XI to face Ajax in the Champions League
Liverpool are back in action for another Champions League campaign as they face Ajax in the first round of fixtures. The Reds are in a bit of a slump, with a draw and loss in their last two games, which includes a 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa, prior to the international break.
The Dutch powerhouse on the other hand are fresh off demolishing Heerenveen in their last Eredivisie game. It is bound to be an exciting clash with several underlying factors.
Team News
Jurgen Klopp might be having some sleepless nights given how many of his first-team players are out for this fixture. Alisson was the first to be ruled out a few weeks ago but in the space of just one week, they have lost three of their vital players.
Virgil Van Dijk’s ACL injury means that he could well be out for the season. Thiago also suffered a knock in the Merseyside derby, which put him out of contention. Finally, it was Matip whose injury made things way more complicated. Also, Oxlade-Chamberlain still remains out.
Probable Liverpool XI
Formation: 4-3-3
Adrian (GK)
Fans will be hoping for Alisson’s speedy recovery as Adrian showed again that he is not the best option to stand between the posts. Nonetheless, he will have to continue as the Brazilian might still be out for a while.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (RB)
Yet to produce the form we have seen in the last few seasons. Looks defensively suspect this season, while his attacking contributions left a lot to be desired.
Joe Gomez (CB)
There will be a lot riding on the youngster as he remains the only natural centre-back in the side. Needs to step up in the absence of senior centre-backs.
Fabinho (CB)
Fabinho will have to play as a makeshift centre-back as the club have just the one fit natural CB. Shouldn’t be much of a problem as he has played in that position before.
Andrew Robertson (LB)
Another player who might need to curb his attacking instincts for this game. Robertson will need to close down the gaps between him and Fabinho.
Georginio Wijnaldum (CM)
Should be a welcome return as he would bring lots of energy into the team.
Naby Keita (CM)
The jury still remains out on Keita as he is yet to produce a string of good games and cement his place into the first-team. Can’t afford to let these chances slip.
Jordan Henderson (CDM)
The whole team will be looking at Henderson for inspiration during these tough times. He will have to rally his troops if they are to grab a win.
Mohamed Salah (RW)
Mo Salah just keeps scoring, win, lose or draw. The Egyptian is on a good scoring streak and will hope to continue in the same vein.
Roberto Firmino (CF)
Firmino really needs to start getting in among the goals and assists. Especially now with the team undergoing such issues.
Sadio Mane (LW)
Mane’s impact cannot be understated. The Senegal man is one the hardest working forwards and will be eager to get on the score sheet again.
