Predicted Rangers XI to face Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership

Rangers edged past Livingston 1-0 in the Scottish League cup on Wednesday, thanks to a solitary goal from Glen Kamara early in the game, but Steven Gerrard’s side have a tough test on their hands when they play host to Aberdeen on Saturday.

The Gers haven’t lost a game since their defeat at the hands of Celtic in the Old Firm derby prior to the international break but things can be tricky for them against Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen, who are currently placed third in the standings.

Aberdeen crashed out of the League Cup with a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Hearts but even a draw at Ibrox this weekend would be a big result for the Dons.

Team News

Steven Gerrard didn’t make too many changes to his regular selection pattern for the League Cup game and he is expected to continue with the same set to players on Saturday against Aberdeen.

Jordan Jones (knee), Ryan Kent (hamstring), Jon Flanagan (hernia) and Brandon Barker are unlikely to feature, while the injury to Joe Aribo comes as a massive blow to the Gers.

Predicted XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Allan McGregor (GK)

The veteran didn’t have too much to do against Livingston but he has always been a reliable presence between the sticks for the Gers.

James Tavernier (RB)

He wasn’t quite at his sparkling best in the midweek fixture and Rangers will need a lot more from him on Saturday.

Conor Goldson (CB)

The centre-back looked a bit clumsy in the cup tie and struggled to deal with the bounce of the pitch. Nevertheless, he is still ahead of Katic in the pecking order at Ibrox.

Filip Helander (CB)

The Swedish international is yet to hit top gear at his new club but he is one of the mainstays of Gerrard’s backline.

Borna Barisic (LB)

The Croatian has really taken significant strides towards establishing himself as the undisputed first-choice in his position this season and the fans will be expecting him to keep up his good work.

Ryan Jack (CDM)

The Scottish international isn’t the most exciting of players at the club but he is one of the key cogs of Rangers’ midfield and it will be interesting to see how he goes about things against his former club on Saturday.

Steven Davis (RCM)

The veteran came on as a substitute against Livingston but he is likely to be amongst the starters for this one.

Glen Kamara (LCM)

The Finnish international will be in high spirits after scoring the winner in the League Cup.

Sheyi Ojo (RW)

The Liverpool loanee had a frustrating outing in the League Cup but the Gers will once again rely heavily on his pace and scoring prowess on Saturday.

Scott Arfield (LW)

The Canadian put in yet another dogged performance against Livingston and with Jordan Jones out injured and Greg Stewart yet to return to full fitness, he could get another start.

Alfredo Morelos (ST)

The Colombian talisman was one of the standout performers in the 1-0 victory over Livingston and he could once again make all the difference.
