Tottenham player ratings vs Wolves: Who impressed?

Two late strikes from the penalty spot were not enough for the home side as Tottenham held on to their three-goal cushion to claim all three points at Molineux and moved to 4th in the Premier League standings.

Erik Lamela put the visitors in the driver’s seat much against the run of play in the first half before Lucas Moura headed it in from Kieran Trippier’s perfect cross to make double the advantage for the Lilywhites.

Wolves pressed for a comeback in the second half but Harry Kane put the game virtually beyond the home side’s reach with a thunderous finish in the 61st-minute.

However, the game was far from over as the new boys of the Premier League kept pushing for a lifeline to get back into the game. Two horrible tackles from Juan Foyth inside the penalty box allowed Nuno Santo’s men to get back into the game as Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez made no mistake from the spot.

The home side had multiple chances to get back on level terms but were let down by some poor finishing. The defeat marked Wolves’ third defeat in a row and they will be up against it when they face Arsenal next week.

1. Hugo Lloris (8/10)

Made three sharp saves in the space of three minutes early in the second half to preserve his team’s lead and did very well to put Helder Costa under pressure in a one-on-one situation.

2. Kieran Trippier (6.5/10)

He assisted Lucas Moura with an inch-perfect cross from the right. Was pretty solid at the back but was caught out at times by the movement of Ivan Cavaleiro and gave the ball away cheaply in the build-up to Wolves’ first goal.

3. Toby Alderweireld (6.5/10)

The Belgian had a decent game in the heart of the defence except for a humiliating moment when he was turned inside out by Helder Costa.

4. Juan Foyth (6/10)

Feel a bit sorry for the young man. The Argentine looked very comfortable in possession and his passing was probably better than the central midfielders; lost his calmness in the final minutes of the game as Wolves pressed for a comeback and conceded two late penalties.

5. Ben Davies (6.5/10)

He was largely solid at the back except for the occasions when he was outfoxed by the brilliance of Helder Costa and Matt Doherty.

6. Harry Winks (7/10)

Another calm and composed display by the youngster in the heart of midfield. Moved the ball around with short passes and his distribution was very impressive; dropped back to cut out the attacks when Wolves were dominating the game.

7. Mousa Dembele (4/10)

Subbed off due to an injury after just 7 minutes.

8. Moussa Sissoko (6/10)

Put in the hard yards and showed some nice touches to get past the defenders but his final pass was horrible; was playing in a deeper role than usual to cover for Dembele’s absence.

9. Erik Lamela (7.5/10)

The Argentine has by far been Spurs’ best performer since his return from injury. Linked up very well with Heung-Min Son and scored the opener with a tidy finish between the keeper’s legs; showed a lot of flair and always looked threatening in the final third. Played a part in Harry Kane’s goal as well.

10. Lucas Moura (7/10)

Showed some elegant touches and got past the defenders with his silky dribbling. Scored the second goal with a header and always a lively presence in the final third.

11. Harry Kane (7.5/10)

Had two or three very good shots on goal and played some good passes to link-up the play. Got a much-deserved goal in the second half to speak for his efforts.

Substitutes

Heing-Min Son (7/10)

A constant threat down the flanks with his pace and dribbling and showed a lot of energy and endeavour to make things happen. Combined beautifully with Lamela to set him up for the opener.

Brought on in the dying stages to shore up the backline.
