10th seed Cameron Norrie takes on 14th seed Frances Tiafoe in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Indian Wells on Wednesday.
The British No. 1 began the campaign with a comfortable 6-2, 6-4 win against Tung-Lin Wu in the round of 64. Norrie went on to beat Taro Daniel in the round of 32 after dropping the first set. The intriguing match ended 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 6-2. Norrie smashed 11 aces in this match and converted 7 out of 10 break points.
The southpaw followed it up with an impressive win against 6th seed Andrey Rublev. The one-sided encounter ended 6-2, 6-4 in favor of Norrie, who had a win percentage of 79 on the first serve and also converted 5 out of 5 break points. This comprehensive win would have surely given Norrie a lot of confidence.
The American youngster has not dropped a set so far in the tournament. He began with a comprehensive 6-2, 6-2 win against Marcos Giron in the round of 64. Tiafoe followed it up with another one-sided victory against Jason Kubler in the round of 32, winning 6-3, 6-2. Tiafoe smashed 9 aces and had a win percentage of 75 in this match. He also converted 3 out of 3 break points.
In the round of 16, Tiafoe put on a solid performance to beat Alejandro Tabilo 6-4, 6-4. Once again, Tiafoe converted 3 out of 3 break points and bettered his win percentage on the first serve to 77.
Cameron Norrie leads the head-to-head scoreline 1-0. He defeated Tiafoe in their only previous meeting in the Delray Beach Open 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
