Hungary’s Dalma Galfi takes on Croatia’s Ana Konjuh in the qualifiers of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
The 24-year-old did not have a great start to the season as she was ousted by 8th seed Rebecca Marino in the round of 32 of the ASB Classic. In the qualifiers of the Adelaide International 2, Galfi pulled out during her qualifying-round match against Anastasia Potapova. Galfi crashed out in the first round of the Australian Open after losing to Qinwen Zheng.
After another first-round exit in the Lyon Open, Galfi played well to reach the quarterfinals of the Linz Open. She retired during her match against Marketa Vondrousova. Galfi returned to action in the ATX Open last week but her run ended in the first round with a loss to Marta Kostyuk.
The former ITF Junior world No. 1 began the season with a loss in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open. She went on to qualify for the main draw of the subsequent Lyon Open. However, in the first round of the main draw, she retired while trailing 2-6, 2-3 against Mayar Sherif. Konjuh also qualified for the main draw of the Merida Open but once again went down in the round of 32.
Before the Indian Wells, Konjuh played in the Monterrey Open. The 25-year-old went down to Lesia Tsurenko in the second round of qualifying.
The head-to-head is currently tied at 1-1. Konjuh won their most recent encounter in the round of 32 of an ITF event in Shrewsbury last year. The match ended 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in favor of the Croatian youngster.
Prediction: Dalma Galfi to win in three sets.
