The big-serving American has played in four tournaments so far in the season. He has been ousted in the first round in three of them while he finished runner-up in one.

In the ASB Classic, Isner went down to Gregoire Barrere in three sets. The Australian Open followed where he was beaten by fellow veteran Adrian Mannarino. Isner bounced back strongly to reach the finals of the Dallas Open. The home favorite gave Wu Yibing a good run for his money but the Chinese youngster held his nerves to win 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (14-12). Prior to the Indian Wells, Isner went to compete in the Mexican Open. However, his run ended in the first round with a loss to Taylor Fritz.

Brandon Nakashima

The 21-year-old began the season by losing to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 32 of the Adelaide International 2. In the Australian Open, Nakashima lost to fellow American Mackenzie McDonald in a five-set thriller in the first round.
