The Swedish star has played some fine tennis this season. She did not have a great time at the Australian Open as she lost in the first round of qualifying. In an ITF event in the USA in February, Peterson finished runner-up. She had a chance to win her third WTA singles title at the Merida Open. However, Peterson lost to Camila Giorgi in the final.

The 27-year-old played a couple of qualifying matches to get through to the main draw. In the first round, she comprehensively defeated Simona Waltert in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. In the second round of qualifying, Peterson had to dig deep to defeat Caroline Dolehide 7-5, 7-6.

She played well in the Australian Open and made it to the third round for the third time in the first Grand Slam of the year.
