Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson takes on Simona Waltert of Switzerland in the qualifiers of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
The 27-year-old has already reached a couple of finals this year. In the Australian Open, she was ousted in the first round of qualifying. She made it to the final of an ITF event in the USA where she lost to Kimberly Birrell.
Peterson had a dream run in the Merida Open last month. She progressed from the qualifiers and finished runner-up in the event. In the main draw, Peterson registered wins against Nadia Podoroska, Alycia Parks, Magda Linette, and Caty McNally before going down to Camila Giorgi in the final.
The Swiss youngster began the season with a loss in the first round of the ITF event in Australia. In the Australian Open, she crashed out in the third round of qualifying. Waltert made it to the quarterfinals of an ITF event in France. She lost to Ana Konjuh in the second round of qualifying of the Lyon Open. In an ITF event in France, she finished runner-up.
In the Merida Open, she was ousted by Ysaline Bonaventure in the first round. Waltert most recently played in the Monterrey Open where she squandered a one-set lead to lose to Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the first round of qualifying.
This will be the first meeting between Simona Waltert and Rebecca Peterson. Therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
