5th seed Daniil Medvedev takes on 14th seed Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals of the 2023 Indian Wells on Saturday.

The 2021 US Open champion began his Indian Wells campaign with a solid 6-4, 6-3 win against Brandon Nakashima. In the round of 32, Medvedev dominated the first and third sets against Ilya Ivashka to win the match 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Medvedev had to show a lot of grit and determination in the round of 16 against Alexander Zverev. After dropping the first set, the Russian star won the match 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. In this encounter, Medvedev managed to save 15 break points and also smashed 12 aces. In the quarterfinals, Medvedev defeated 23rd-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets 6-3, 7-5. Medvedev had a win percentage of 85 on the first serve.

Frances Tiafoe

The 25-year-old has been in exemplary form in Indian Wells this season. He has not dropped a set so far in the competition. Tiafoe began with a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win against Marcos Giron. In the round of 32, Tiafoe went on to beat Jason Kubler 6-3, 6-2. Tiafoe smashed 9 aces and converted 3 out of 3 break points.

In the round of 16, Tiafoe played some solid tennis to win the match 6-4, 6-4 against Alejandro Tabilo. Once again, Tiafoe converted 3 out of 3 break points. The American tennis pro picked up an impressive 6-4, 6-4 win against Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals with a win percentage of 75 on the first serve. This is the first time he will be playing in the semifinals of a Masters 1000 event.

Medvedev has a comfortable 4-1 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Tiafoe. The Russian tennis pro defeated Tiafoe in their most recent encounter in the 2021 Miami Open 6-4, 6-3.
