16th seed Barbora Krejcikova takes on Dayana Yastremska in the round of 64 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Friday.

The former world No. 2 has been in fine form this season. She did not have a great start as she crashed out in the second round of the Adelaide International 2. Krejcikova managed to reach the fourth round in the Australian Open and won the doubles event alongside Katerina Siniakova. The 27-year-old couldn’t get past the second round in Abu Dhabi and the first round in Qatar.
Krejcikova’s biggest triumph of the season in singles competitions came in the Dubai Tennis Championships. She won the final with victories against the top 3 ranked players in the world – Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, and Iga Swiatek. This was the second time she defeated Swiatek in a final. With this win, Krejcikova picked up her first WTA 1000 singles title of her career.
Dayana Yastremska
The Ukrainian youngster hasn’t had a notable result this year. She lost in the first round of qualifying at the Adelaide International 1. In the Australian Open, Yastremska couldn’t go beyond the first round. Yastremska’s first win of the season came in the first round of the Thailand Open when he defeated Moyuka Uchijima. She lost in the following round to Tatjana Maria. In Abu Dhabi, she progressed to the main draw from the qualifiers and lost to Jil Teichmann in the round of 32.
Yastremska lost in the final round of qualifying in the Qatar Open while in Dubai, she was ousted in the second round after progressing from the qualifiers. In the ATX Open, she lost to Anna-Lena Friedsam in the first round. Yastremska began her Indian Wells campaign against Anna Bondar in the round of 128. The former won the match convincingly 6-3, 6-4, converting 5 out of 5 break points.
