10th seed Cameron Norrie faces Taiwanese qualifier Tung-Lin Wu in the round of 64 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Friday.
The British star has been in scintillating form this season. He has already reached three finals this year. In the ASB Classic, Norrie lost to Richard Gasquet in the final. After a disappointing third-round exit in the Australian Open, Norrie came back strongly to finish runner-up in the Argentina Open, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. The 27-year-old avenged his loss to Alcaraz as he defeated the former world No. 1 in the finals of the Rio Open.
Last year in Indian Well, Norrie managed to reach the quarterfinals. Interestingly, he had lost his quarter-final clash against Carlos Alcaraz.
The 24-year-old mostly played in Challenger events this season. He was ousted in the first round of qualifying at the Australian Open and the round of 32 at the Delray Beach Open.
Tung-Lin Wu began his campaign in Indian Wells with a fine performance against Alexander Shevchenko in the first round of qualifying. The Taiwanese youngster played well in sets one and three to win 6-2, 6-7, 6-3. In the second round of qualifying, he was leading Francesco Passaro 6-2, 3-0 when the Italian player retired. Alexander Bublik was Wu’s opponent in the round of 128. The Kazakhstani No. 1 was beaten 6-4, 6-4.
This will be the first meeting between the two players and therefore, the head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0.
Prediction: Cameron Norrie to win in straight sets.
