Top seed Carlos Alcaraz locks horns with 31st seed Tallon Griekspoor in the round of 32 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
Carlos Alcaraz
The Spanish sensation has played two tournaments this season and has made it to the finals in both of them. He won the title in Rio for the second time in a row while finishing runner-up in the Mexican Open.
Semi-finalist in 2022, Alcaraz began this year’s Indian Wells campaign with a comfortable win against Australian qualifier Thanasi Kokkinakis in the round of 64. The 2022 US Open champion won the match 6-3, 6-3. He had a win percentage of 81 on the first serve. Kokkinakis failed to break Alcaraz’s serve throughout the match. Alcaraz converted 3 out of 9 break points in the match and that proved to be enough.
Tallon Grieskpoor
The Dutch star won the Maharashtra Open to begin the season and also reached the semis in the ATP Rotterdam Open. However, he has recently been a bit quiet in the recent tournaments he has played.
In the round of 64, the 26-year-old faced Argentina’s Guido Pella in the round of 64. Griekspoor had to show a lot of grit and determination to win the match 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4). He sent in 14 aces and had a win percentage of 77 on the first serve. Griekspoor converted 2 out of 4 break points and punched his ticket to the round of 32.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
Alcaraz has a slender 2-1 lead in the head-to-head scoreline. He defeated Griekspoor in their most recent meeting in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-3.
Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in straight sets.
