The talented American youngster has been in fine form this year and she has breezed into the round of 16 in Indian Wells with a couple of comprehensive victories.
After receiving a first-round bye, Gauff eased past Cristina Bucsa, winning the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Gauff converted 4 out of 5 break points in the encounter. The 19-year-old followed it up with another scintillating performance against the talented Linda Noskova. Gauff won the match 6-4, 6-3, smashing 7 aces and having a win percentage of 88 on the first serve. The 27-year-old finished runner-up in the Merida Open last month and has continued with her good form in Indian Wells. She followed it up with a hard-fought win against the impressive Marta Kostyuk in the round of 128. The match ended 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 in favor of Peterson.
The world No. 103 was leading 3-0 against Zhang Shuai in the first set of the round of 64 when the Chinese veteran retired. In the round of 32, Peterson bounced back from a set down to beat Jil Teichmann 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. Peterson smashed 7 aces and converted 7 out of 12 break points in the match.
