World No. 80 Dalma Galfi takes on world No. 156 Katie Swan in the final round of qualifying at the 2023 Indian Wells on Tuesday.
The Hungarian star played in 6 tournaments before coming to play in Indian Wells. She produced her best result at the Linz Open where she made it to the quarterfinals with wins against Bernarda Pera and Eva Lys.
In the first round of qualifying in Indian Wells, Galfi squared off against Ana Konjuh. The top seed, Galfi played some scintillating tennis to ease past the Croatian star in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Galfi will hope to build on this performance. Last year in Indian Wells, Galfi had progressed to the main draw from the qualifiers. Her campaign ended in the round of 128 with a loss against Alison Van Uytvanck.
The British youngster has not been able to progress beyond the qualifiers in any tournament this year. She played in the United Cup and registered wins against Zoe Hives and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. In the Australian Open, Swan was ousted in the first round of qualifying. She went on to play in the Lyon Open where she lost to Olga Danilovic in the second round of qualifying.
In Indian Wells, Swan picked up a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 win against 17th seed, Laura Jeanjean in the first round of qualifying.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of Swan. She defeated Galfi in the quarterfinals of an ITF event in Portugal in 2017 with a score of 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
Prediction: Dalma Galfi to win in three sets.
