Two Argentine players – Diego Schwartzman and Federico Coria will collide in the round of 128 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Wednesday.
Schwartzman has not had a memorable year thus far. He pulled out ahead of the United Cup owing to an injury. He returned to play in the ASB Classic but his run ended in the round of 16 after he retired in his match against Jenson Brooksby. Schwartzman picked up his first win of the season against Oleksii Krutykh in the first round of the Australian Open. However, his run came to an end in the following round as he lost to J.J. Wolf.
Schwartzman comes into the tournament with a 5-match losing streak. He failed to win a single match in the Cordoba Open, the Argentina Open, the Rio Open, and the Chile Open. Schwartzman will hope to bring his campaign this season on the right track.
The 30-year-old has had a much better season thus far, compared to Schwartzman. Coria played in the United Cup and the ASB Classic but couldn’t impress. In the Australian Open, he lost to Marton Fucsovics in the first round. Coria went on to win a Challenger title in Concepcion. He followed it up with a run to the finals of the Cordoba Open. Coria lost to compatriot Sebastian Baez in the final.
Before Indian Wells, Coria was seen in action in the Argentina Open. His campaign ended with a tough loss to Facundo Diaz Acosta in the round of 32 in two competitive sets 7-6 (7-5), 7-5.
Diego Schwartzman has an unblemished record of 2-0 in the head-to-head scoreline.
Prediction: Federico Coria to win in three sets.
