7th seed Holger Rune takes on Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka in the round of 32 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.

The 19-year-old has already reached a couple of semifinals in 2023. In Montpellier, he lost to Maxime Cressy in the semis while in the Mexican Open, he was ousted by Alex de Minaur in the last-4 stage.
Rune received a first-round bye and squared off against Mackenzie McDonald in the round of 64. The first set was tight but Rune bagged it 7-5. The Danish youngster dominated the second set and eventually won the match 7-5, 6-3. Rune had a win percentage of 79 on the first serve and wasn’t broken during the encounter.
Stan Wawrinka
The experienced campaigner came into the tournament after reaching back-to-back quarterfinals in the ATP Rotterdam Open and the Open 13. He got the better of Australian qualifier Aleksandar Vukic in the round of 128 in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Wawrinka smashed 10 aces and had a win percentage of 85 on the first serve. He also converted 3 out of 4 break points.
In the round of 64, Wawrinka had to dig deep to beat 26th seed Miomir Kecmanovic in two competitive sets 7-6 (10-8), 6-4. The former world No. 3 hit 13 aces and had a win percentage of 88 on the first serve. He has served quite well in this competition thus far and would hope to continue doing so against Rune as well.

Holger Rune has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline against Wawrinka. The talented youngster defeated the 3-time Grand Slam champion 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) in the 2022 Paris Masters.
