9th seed Hubert Hurkacz faces 17th seed Tommy Paul in the round of 32 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
The Polish star has been in fine form as of late. He won the title in Open 13 and reached the quarterfinals in the Dubai Tennis Championships.
Hurkacz received a bye into the second round and faced Australian tennis pro, Alexei Popyrin. The world No. 11 made light work of Popyrin, winning the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Hurkacz smashed 9 aces in the match and had a win percentage of 75 on the first serve. Popyrin could not break Hurkacz’s serve throughout the match.
The American star has also been in fine form this season. He reached the semifinals in the Australian Open and recently finished runner-up in the Mexican Open.
Paul began his Indian Wells campaign with a comfortable win against German qualifier Jan-Lennard Struff. The 25-year-old won the match 6-3, 6-3. He had a win percentage of 66 on the first serve that went up to 86 on the second serve. Paul also fired in 6 aces and converted 4 out of 12 break points.
Hubert Hurkacz has a 1-0 lead in the head-to-head scoreline. He defeated Tommy Paul 7-5, 7-6 in the round of 32 of the 2021 Paris Masters.
