The promising Jack Draper takes on Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi in the round of 128 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Thursday.
The 21-year-old began the season by playing in the Adelaide International 1. His campaign ended with a second-round loss to Karen Khachanov. In the Adelaide International 2, Draper played well to reach the semifinals. During the tournament, he defeated big names like Lorenzo Sonego, Tommy Paul, and Karen Khachanov before losing to Soon-woo Kwon.
Draper couldn’t show his pyrotechnics in the Australian Open, losing in the first round to defending champion Rafael Nadal. The youngster still managed to take a set off Nadal. Draper will be playing his first match since the loss, skipping all the tournaments he was supposed to play in February, apparently due to a leg injury.
The Swiss youngster had a solid start to the season, finishing runner-up in a Challenger event in Canberra in January. In the Australian Open, he lost to Dalibor Svrcina in the final round of qualifying. Riedi played in the Open 13 where he defeated Arthur Rinderknech in the first round before he lost to top seed Hubert Hurkacz.
In the first round of Indian Wells, Riedi defeated Alex Michelsen 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. The 21-year-old followed it up with a thumping win against Alexandre Muller in the final round of qualifying, winning the match 6-4, 6-1.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as the two players have never faced each other yet.
Prediction: Jack Draper to win in straight sets.
