Indian Wells 2023: Marketa Vondrousova vs Rebecca Marino – Preview, Head-to-Head, and Prediction

2019 French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova faces Canadian veteran Rebecca Marino in the round of 128 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Thursday.

The 23-year-old has registered some decent results this season. She began with a run to the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 1, losing to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka. In the Australian Open, Vondrousova was bettered by Linda Fruhvirtova in the third round. The Czech star pulled off her best result in the Linz Open as she reached the semifinals. Vondrousova eventually lost to Anastasia Potapova.

Prior to Indian Wells, Vondrousova took part in the Dubai Tennis Championships. Her campaign ended in the first round as she lost to Karolina Pliskova. Last year in Indian Wells, Vondrousov made it to the round of 16 where she lost to Veronika Kudermetova.

Rebecca Marino

The experienced campaigner hasn’t had a great start to the season. She has played in 7 tournaments thus far in 2023 and managed to go beyond the first round on only two occasions – the ASB Classic and the Monterrey Open.

She has been ousted in the first rounds in Hobart, Australian Open, Abu Dhabi, and Qatar while in the Dubai Tennis Championships, she lost to Rebeka Masarova in the final round of qualifying. Masarova will have to use her years of experience against the talented Vondrousova.
