Portugal’s Nuno Borges squares off against Pablo Andujar of Spain in the qualifiers of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
The 26-year-old played in the Australian Open where his campaign ended against Lorenzo Sonego in the first round. In the Delray Beach Open, Borges defeated Borna Gojo in the finals of a Challenger event in Monterrey.
He went on to play in the Mexican Open where Holger Rune ended his run in the second round. This was after he got the better of Nick Chappell in the round of 32.
The experienced campaigner began the season by playing in the Maharashtra Open. He lost to Aslan Karatsev in the round of 32. In the Australian Open, his campaign ended with a loss to Adam Walton in the first round of qualifying. Andujar retired while trailing 4-6, 0-1 in the round of 32 of the Cordoba Open against Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
He returned to action at the Open 13. The 37-year-old couldn’t get past the round of 32 as he lost to Alexander Ritschard. Andujar lost to Fabio Fognini in the round of 128 of the Indian Wells last year. The Spanish veteran will hope to use his years of experience to good effect.
Nuno Borges is 1-0 up on the head-to-head scoreline. He went past Pablo Andujar when the Spaniard retired while trailing 4-6, 0-3 in the round of 32 of the 2022 Estoril Open.
