4th seed Ons Jabeur squares off against an upbeat Marketa Vondrousova in the round of 32 of the 2023 Indian Wells on Monday.
The 28-year-old came into the tournament on the back of a loss to Marketa Vondrousova in the Australian Open in the second round. Jabeur took a break from tennis after that loss to address a knee injury.
She returned to the court to battle against Magdalena Frech in the round of 64 in Indian Wells after receiving a first-round bye. The Polish qualifier won the first set but Jabeur showed her class thereafter and eventually won the match 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Jabeur had a win percentage of 71 on the first serve and converted 6 out of 11 break points.
The 2019 French Open finalist has reached one semifinal and one quarterfinal already in 2023. She has stormed into the round of 32 in Indian Wells with two thumping wins in the previous rounds.
In the round of 128, Vondrousova eased past Rebecca Marino in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. The former was exceptional with her serves and had a win percentage of 86 on the first serve. In the round of 64, she made light work of 28th seed Marie Bouzkova, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. In this encounter, Vondrousova had a win percentage of 83 on the first serve.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 3-1 in favor of Jabeur. Vondrousova won their most recent encounter in the 2023 Australian Open 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
Prediction: Marketa Vondrousova to win in three sets.
