2nd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas locks horns with world No. 87 Jordan Thompson in the round of 64 of the 2023 Indian Wells Open on Friday.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
The Greek No. 1 has not played in too many tournaments this season but had showed his class in the Australian Open. He made it to the finals of a Grand Slam for the second time in his career. En route to the finals, Tsitsipas got the better of Quentin Halys, Rinky Hijikata, Tallon Griekspoor, Jannik Sinner, Jiri Lehecka, and Karen Khachanov. In the finals, he lost to the legendary Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
After the Australian Open and prior to Indian Wells, Tsitsipas played only one tournament and that was the ATP Rotterdam Open. He entered the tournament as the top seed and defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round. In the following round, he was outplayed by Jannik Sinner. Last year in Indian Wells, Tsitsipas crashed out in the round of 32 with a loss against Jenson Brooksby.
Jordan Thompson
The 28-year-old might not have had any result of note in ATP Tour-level events this season but he has managed to win a Challenger event in Rome, USA. Throughout the tournament, Thompson didn’t drop a set and in the final, he defeated Alex Michelsen.
In the round of 128 in Indian Wells, Thompson eased past Gael Monfils in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. The Aussie star converted 4 out of 6 break points in the encounter.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline stands at 2-0 in favor of Stefanos Tsitsipas. His most recent win against Jordan Thompson came in the 2022 Wimbledon Championships as the Greek star emerged victorious in straight sets 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
Prediction: Stefanos Tsitsipas to win in straight sets.
