The Boneyard match between AJ Styles and The Undertaker was one of the top clashes at WrestleMania 36
AJ Styles bore the brunt of the Undertaker’s rage during the Boneyard match at WrestleMania 36.
Taker had brought out this stipulation as two of the WWE’s best workers faced off in a graveyard.
WrestleMania might have been in front of an empty crowd, but the Boneyard match was one of the best on the first day of the event.
While Styles came out of a coffin to poke fun at Taker’s entrances from the past. The Deadman carried his American Badass persona and rode a bike.
Styles seemed set to win the clash before The Undertaker used some of his supernatural powers to get the upper hand.
The Phenomenal One even begged the Undertaker for forgiveness but the Deadman didn’t listen. In the end, Styles was buried under a pile of dirt, and this could be a sign that he will be out of action for a while.
Is AJ Styles leaving WWE?
It would be crazy for Styles to return to WWE action just after the Boneyard match. In the past too, wrestlers would take a lot of time off after a buried alive match and this would also play into the storyline.
It makes no sense for Styles to be back on Raw after his clash with the Undertaker, and it will be interesting to see what steps WWE takes now.
Taker has only featured in the run-up to Mania, and it is unlikely he will return to Raw on Monday too.
Styles should be back in action after a while and that will be played out in the storylines. However, it is unlikely he will leave WWE now.
The Phenomenal one has spoken about retiring and we could see that take place sooner or later.
Styles retiring?
Styles was speaking with Mark Henry in 2020 and hinted that he would leave the ring sooner or later.
He went on to say:
“I don’t want to be an AJ Styles where they go, ‘I wish he could still do that. He’s really slow.’ I don’t want that. I want to be that AJ Styles that people will remember and go out that way. Will I be like I was when I was 25? There’s no way. It’s just not possible.”
Styles did sign a new deal with WWE in 2019 and it will be interesting to see when he calls his time in the ring.
The American made a name for himself in TNA and the independent circuit too before finally making it big in WWE.
Prior to this match, he told WWE backstage that he wanted to learn stuff from The Undertaker and hence decided to call him out.
He still said that there was a lot to learn for him, and that is also a hint that he isn’t retiring for the moment.
