Ronda Rousey is a former UFC champion but is she returning to the promotion?

The talk of the town has been the return of former UFC champion Ronda Rousey. It all started with rumours about Rousey wanting to leave WWE before the next WrestleMania and that has only intensified over the past few weeks.

Rousey has always been at loggerheads with WWE in terms of talent in the women’s division, and it seems that she might be finally done with the wrestling promotion.

However, does that open the door for a UFC return? The Baddest Woman on the Planet is a former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion but has not fought in MMA since 2016.

Laura Sanko, one of the biggest presenters and reporters in MMA was asked by the Schmo about Rousey’s possible return. The Schmo pitched that Rousey could fight for the vacant 135lb title, since Amanda Nunes retired, and Sanko was more than happy to see Rousey back.

“Can you imagine? Can you imagine the return of the woman who started it all for us?

“I am so onboard for that, you have no idea. I don’t care who she is facing, I have no problem with her going right to the front of the line.”

She also brought up that Rousey deserved a title shot or more for all that she had done previously for the promotion.

“Now that Amanda has gone off into greener pastures, I love that the throne’s open and if there is any chance in the world that Ronda could come back and sit there? All about it.”

Should Ronda Rousey get a straight title shot if she returns?

Nunes retiring has left two belts vacant, the Bantamweight and the Featherweight titles. However, there are quite a few contenders for the Bantamweight crown with former champion Julianna Pena waiting in the wings.

Raquel Pennington is another name that Schmo brought up, and she could also get a title shot.

Rousey, for her part, could be put right into the title shot because of who she is. She would certainly sell out PPVs and ensure there is a lot of interest in the fight.

However, being away from the fight game is something too. Octagon-rust is a real thing, and putting her right back into the main title scene might not work in her favour.

Right now, it is to be seen what is next for Rousey. She still has quite some time left in her WWE contract, but her return rumours will only grow stronger with each passing day.
