STEPHEN CURRY is the latest celebrity to be the victim of an internet death rumour.
Fans questioned whether the NBA star was still alive and well as the NBA postseason in Florida heated up in the Orlando Bubble.
More on the NBA player and why the internet believes he’s dead can be found here.
Stephen Curry, Who?
Wardell Stephen Curry, a Golden State Warriors point guard, was born on March 14, 1988.
Since being drafted by the California team in 2009, the 32-year-old professional athlete has become a six-time NBA All-Star and twice been named the league’s Most Valuable Player.
He’s also a three-time NBA champion with the Warriors.
Curry is also the son of former NBA player Dell Curry, who spent his 16-year career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, and Toronto Raptors.
Seth Curry, his younger brother, is a professional basketball player who currently plays point guard for the Dallas Mavericks.
Why do basketball fans think Stephen Curry is dead?
Because of his notable absence from the 2020 NBA playoffs, fans are likely to believe Curry is dead.
The Warriors were officially eliminated from playoff contention by the Los Angeles Clippers on March 11 for the first time in eight years.
Curry told the New York Times in August that he was experiencing “major FOMO,” or “fear of missing out,” while spending his summer outside the NBA Bubble.
“Obviously, I was happy to see basketball back on TV,” he said, “but that first week I had major FOMO.”
“Once you see Bron, Kawhi, and P.G., you’ll understand.” go at it, and you remember how much fun it is to play in those types of games and at that level, and you really miss it,”
What did Trump have to say about Stephen Curry?
Following the Warriors’ 2017 NBA Finals victory, President Donald Trump rescinded the team’s invitation to the White House after Curry stated that he would not be attending.
“For a championship team, going to the White House is considered a great honour,” Trump said.
“Because Stephen Curry is hesitant, the invitation has been withdrawn!”
When a championship team’s season ends, the popular tradition is extended to them.
It’s unclear whether Trump rescinded only Curry’s invitation or the entire team’s, but the Warriors announced their decision to skip Trump’s meeting hours after the president’s remark.
The NBA defended the team’s decision, saying that “the celebration of free expression, not condemnation, is what truly makes America great.”
