The last Grand Slam event of the year – the US Open has often come under the scanner as many fans believe that the draw is rigged/fixed.
This year, the story has been no different as fans have pointed out certain little things from the US Open 2022 draw that suggest that it be rigged. Lack of transparency has always been one of the biggest complaints that have been associated with the US Open draw.
The US Open draw took place this Thursday. The tournament gets underway on August 29 as players are making their last-minute preparations.
Some fans were not happy with the opponents that four-time US Open champion Rafael Nadal may face at the tournament.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion opens his US Open campaign against the Australian youngster Rinky Hijikata on August 29.
Another fan felt that the draw was rigged to favor the 23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams. The fan also noted that seeded players are playing tougher opponents than Williams.
While there is no conclusive evidence to confirm that the US Open draw is rigged, some planning has been done beforehand to give us some popcorn matches. The USTA shouldn’t take the fans for granted. They should try to make the draw more transparent and that wouldn’t give fans the chance to point fingers and put forward certain conspiracy theories.
Who will defending champions Daniil Medvedev and Emma Raducanu face in their respective first matches in the US Open?
The 2021 edition of the US Open had some spectacular matches and some monumental upsets. Emma Raducanu shocked the world as she progressed from the qualifiers and won the tournament without dropping a set. Daniil Medvedev won the men’s singles event by defeating Novak Djokovic in straight sets in the final.
The World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev will start his title defense against the 24-year-old American tennis pro – Stefan Kozlov on August 29.
Emma Raducanu has not been in the great form of late. However, her last year’s heroics at Flushing Meadows will surely give her a great boost of confidence as she faces Alize Cornet in the first round on August 31.
