Wednesday – A short intro

It is a comedy-horror television series, that got a wholesome reception for its first season around the world. The star-studded series features Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Georgie Farmer, Naomi J. Ogawa, Christina Ricci, and Moosa Mostafa in supporting roles.

The story revolves around the investigation of a monster mystery by Wednesday Addams at her new school. The series was filmed in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022.

It initially premiered on November 16, 2022, and was released to the world via Netflix on November 23. As soon as it got released, it got flooded with positive reviews, ranging from those from the general audience to those from high-rated critics. The interesting part is that just within three weeks of its release, “Wednesday”  became the second most viewed English-language Netflix series.

Apart from the reception it got from the audiences, the series got two Golden Globe nominations: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Ortega.

Character summary

The main cast of “Wednesday” includes Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, a teenage girl with psychic powers who is sent to Nevermore Academy, where she interacts with various supernatural students such as Xavier Thorpe, a student who can bring his art to life, Enid Sinclair, her werewolf roommate, and Bianca Barclay, a siren and Xavier’s ex-girlfriend. Gwendoline Christie plays the shapeshifting principal, Larissa Weems, and Riki Lindhome plays Wednesday’s therapist, Dr. Valerie Kinbott. 

The show also features Jamie McShane as Jericho’s suspicious sheriff, Donovan Galpin, and Hunter Doohan as his son, Tyler, who is romantically interested on Wednesday. Additionally, Christina Ricci makes a guest appearance as Marilyn Thornhill / Laurel Gates), the botany teacher and dorm mother at Nevermore Academy, who is revealed to be related to Joseph Crackstone and Garrett.

Wednesday Season 2 – Expectation

At the conclusion of season 1, it was revealed that Wednesday’s love interest was the culprit behind a string of murders, and he fled from a police van. Furthermore, on Wednesday, she received a threatening message that stated someone was monitoring her. The audience greatly enjoyed the deepening friendship between Wednesday and Enid and is eager to see where their bond will go in future episodes.

There has been much speculation about who Wednesday’s next romantic interest will be. Morticia Addams, Wednesday’s mother, played a significant role in the show and will continue to be prominent in the upcoming season.

Wednesday – Season 2 – Release date

At first, it was announced that season-2 would be released during the 1st week of January 2023. That particular announcement was made via YouTube from the production’s side, but it wasn’t released as promised. The production company or Netflix haven’t given any sort of reason for the delay, and the hype is getting hotter as the days pass.

It seems that the production is making the hype work to their advantage, and even now they haven’t given a proper announcement about season-2. And moreover, it is obvious that season-1 has released just a few months ago.

Jenna Ortega – the Wednesday Star

Jenna Marie Ortega was born on September 27, 2002, in Coachella Valley, California, USA. She belongs to a family of Mexican and Puerto Rican descent. Her acting career began as a child artist, and due to that, she couldn’t get a formal education. She mentioned that she missed those school-life moments. Apart from her acting, she involves herself in a lot of other stuff and utilizes her social media.

She has actively endorsed Pride Over Prejudice, a campaign dedicated to promoting acceptance for the LGBT community, and has been a vocal supporter of the organization since she was 13 years old. Ortega strongly believes in pro-immigration and anti-discrimination policies, as she stated in an interview with Teen Vogue.

Ortega has several upcoming projects, including starring in the Paramount+ thriller film “Finestkind” alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Foster, and Toby Wallace. She has also joined the cast of Lionsgate and Point Grey’s “Miller’s Girl” opposite Martin Freeman, calling her character the most complex role she has ever played. In addition, Ortega is set to star in and executive produce the romantic drama “Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall.” 

She is currently working on an untitled Trey Edward Shults film, alongside The Weeknd and Barry Keoghan. Ortega is also set to star in “Beetlejuice 2” for Warner Bros. Pictures and “Alba,” produced and distributed by A24, where she will star alongside Camila Mendes as her sister. Both of these projects are set to begin filming in the summer of 2023.
