The 2019 movie Joker was initially planned to be a unique work with no follow-ups. Warner Bros., however, intended to utilise it as a springboard for DC Black, a series of DC Comics-based movies that would be unrelated to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) franchise and include darker, more experimental content, much like the DC Black Label comics publisher. Todd Phillips, the film’s director, confirmed that a sequel was not initially planned for, despite his enthusiasm in producing one. The primary actor for the movie, Joaquin Phoenix, has also expressed interest in doing another movie.
