Is Tom Holland being cast as Link in the upcoming The Zelda movie? Learn all there is to know about the truth behind these rumours on the internet.
A live-action movie version of the classic Nintendo game series Legend Of Zelda is in the works, and fans are speculating about who should be cast as the characters in the movie. The Nintendo video game franchise launched in 1986 and currently consists of over 20 installments, including the recently released Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On November 7, Nintendo announced that a live-action Zelda movie is officially in development with Avi Arad and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto producing, The Maze Runner’s Wes Ball directing, and Sony distributing.
As it turns out, fans have put Londoner Tom Holland and his girlfriend Zendaya at the top of their dream casts. While a cast for the project is yet to be confirmed, Zelda fans have begun sharing which actors they would like to see portray some of the game’s familiar characters. In particular, many seem to have their hopes set on the Kingston-born actor portraying the series’ main hero, Link. It’s not the first time he has been linked to the character as last year, an AI-generated poster of Holland as the character went viral.
As the star is once again a favoured choice for the role among fans, his girlfriend and former Spiderman co-star, Zendaya, is also a popular choice for the live-action cast. Fans seem to be eager to see the A-list couple back on screen together as Link and Zelda for the game-inspired project.
Sharing their dream Zelda Live action cast on X, One fan wrote: “I’ll only accept Tom Holland and Zendaya as Link and Zelda.” Another wrote: “I’m so happy a live-action movie of Zelda has been announced. I actually want Tom Holland as Link. I might be the only one, but that’s fine with me!” However, not all Zelda fans will be happy to see Holland being cast as Link.
Besides all the positive reactions, Holland also caught flak from some fans who did not want to see him land the Link role.
“Any money they’ll make Tom Holland Link… shivers,” said a nervous Robsonmonkey on X (formerly known as Twitter). “Co-financed by Sony Pictures and produced by Avi Arad? It’s gonna be Tom Holland as Link isn’t it?” replied BARD3NGUNN. Of course, there are plenty of Chris Pratt jokes in the thread too, which will surprise absolutely nobody.
At this time, we do not have a release date for The Legend of Zelda movie, but it’s likely to be at least two or three years away. Let’s just hope that the adaptation does this iconic video game series the justice it deserves.
