The WWE network now has all its shows on Peacock but is it shutting down?
WWE pulled off quit a coup after confirming that Peacock, the NBC Universal streaming service, would be home to all of the shows.
The WWE Network was the home for all shows related to WWE. This was over an above the regular live shows and PPVs. WWE also streamed specials from top stars and had a catalogue of great shows which included WCW and others.
However, a release from WWE confirmed that Peacock was the home for all WWE shows in the United States of America.
The multi-year deal is reported to be for five years and a whooping $1billion. The release added that all in-ring shows would be on Peacock while all of their original series and PPVs would also be on the platform.
Further, all documentaries, legacy shows of ECW, WCW and more, and a special documentary from 2022 would be on Peacock.
WWE also struck a similar deal in India with the Sony Liv app becoming the home for all streaming services.
However, this seems to be a much bigger deal when compared to the Indian market.
Is WWE network shutting down?
WWE didn’t confirm that the network was shutting down at the moment. They posted details of the streaming plans for Peacock but revealed that they are working on how the transfer of users will take place.
“The companies will share details on managing customer accounts closer to the Peacock launch in March. WWE Network, including all PPVs, will be available on Peacock”
It will be interesting to see how all of this takes place. This is a huge deal for WWE and it is incredible that they were able to pull off such a coup during Covid-19 times.
NBC also have taken a bit of a risk by making Peacock the exclusive streaming platform for WWE. The viewership for shows such as NXT and Raw hasn’t been all that great. However, SmackDown has been doing exceptionally well and is leading the TV wars, at least.
