Josh Emmett proved his crazy toughness as he defeated Shane Burgos despite suffering an ACL tear

UFC Featherweight star Josh Emmett put on one of the greatest UFC performances ever at UFC on ESPN: Blades vs Volkov.

The 35-year-old tore his ACL and suffered many other injuries early in the clash against Shane Burgos.

However, he still got the win and improved to 16 wins and two losses. The 35-year-old has a long road ahead in his recovery but he seemed to be in great spirits while speaking to the Casual Fanboy MMA podcast.

Emmett also listed out a range of injuries he picked up from the clash but he wasn’t happy with the win. The American praised his rival and claimed he was super talented and tough, but believed he should have finished the job earlier:

“I was in for a 15-minute war and I was prepared, but I also thought I would go in there and outclass him and put him away in the first easy.

“I fought him on one leg, I couldn’t do things I wanted to, I fought him like 20-30% of my capability.”

Emmett added this was one reason why the fight felt great but he was “pi**** off” with himself due to the injury.

He also that this was a “sh**** fight” simply because he was unable to be at his best in the Octagon.

Almost gave up on the UFC

Getting into the UFC isn’t easy and Emmett also spoke about how he almost packed it up. The 35-year-old was trying to break into the UFC and claimed he missed out on The Ultimate Fighter a few times.

He added that the UFC was the only destination for him and he wasn’t interested in any other promotion.

However, he spoke about how he was made to fight several clashes and that almost saw him move to boxing:

“I almost got into the UFC when I was 5-0 but didn’t get in. There were always like Urijah was talking to Joe Silva at the time, the matchmaker, and Dana White and just saying like ‘Josh needs to get into UFC’, they are like ‘win one more fight’

“I am fighting all these UFC vets who have 30-40 pro fights and Dana is always saying ‘win one more’ to the point where I was going to be done with MMA, for one, and we were just going to get into boxing.”

Emmett added that he loved boxing and that could have been a different career path too. However, the American is doing pretty well in the UFC, and hopefully, he makes a quick return and can get a few more wins under his belt.
