Italian Open 2023: Francisco Cerundolo vs Jannik Sinner – Preview, Predictions, Head-to-head and Stats

Published by

Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo will take on 8th seed Jannik Sinner in the fourth round of the Italian Open

Cerundolo has had a pretty interesting campaign so far at the Italian Open. The Argentine has registered comeback wins after dropping the first set in both of his two matches.

He began his campaign with a hard-fought win against China’s Wu Yibing and followed it up with another win in three sets over Frenchman Gregoire Barrere. Cerundolo has shown tremendous determination and grit so far in Rome but his performances have been far from convincing. It remains to be seen if he can bring out his A-game against Sinner and cause a major upset.

Jannik Sinner’s form coming into the match

Jannik Sinner is back in action on the ATP tour after missing the Madrid Open due to injury. Sinner has had a great year so far and has 1 ATP title in his kitty – Open Sud de France. Besides winning a title, the Italian has finished runners-up twice and reached the semis of two other events so far in the season. This is Sinner’s first tournament after recovering from injury and he would aim to maintain the same rhythm for the remainder of the season.

Sinner is the No.8 seed in Rome and received a ‘Bye’ in the Round of 128. He won his opening encounter in a dominating fashion against Australia’s Thanasi Kokkinakis and then went on to defeat rookie Alexander Shevchenko in three sets. Sinner is loved in Italy and he would look to use the home support to his advantage and go deep into the tournament. There are high expectations from the Italian and it remains to be seen if he can live up to the billing on home turf.
