The Dutch pair Haase/van de Zandschulp will take on Zielinski/Nys in the men’s doubles final at the Italian Open
Haase and van de Zandschulp are specialist doubles players but they don’t often form a pair together. However, the partnership seems to have worked really well in Rome and they are now one step away from clinching the title. They began their campaign with a major upset against 8th seeds Roger-Vasselin/Gonzalez and then received a walkover in the next round.
In the quarter-finals, the Dutch duo showed immense grit to come back from a set down and script a memorable victory against Murray/Venus. They saved the best for the semis and registered a memorable victory against No.1 seeds Koolhof/Skupski to seal a place in the final.
Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys have brought out their A-game at the Italian Open. They began their campaign with a commendable 6-3, 6-3 victory against Vega Hernandez and Cressy in the first round.
They pulled off a major upset in the next round, getting the better of third seeds Dodig and Krajicek before beating McDonald/Tiafoe 7-5, 7-6 in the quarter-finals. They faced a tough challenge in the semis against the seasoned duo of Zeballos/Granollers but held their nerves to win 6-3, 7-5 and progress to the summit clash.
The pair form an impressive doubles team and have been in really good form. They notably finished as runners-up in the Australian Open earlier this year. The duo have shown good form and consistency throughout the season and they will be confident that they can cause an upset in the semis. It remains to be seen if they can make a fairy-tale ending to their dream run and clinch the title in Rome.
