The unseeded duo of Zielinski/Nys will take on the veterans Zeballos/Granollers in the semi-finals of the Italian Open
Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys have brought out their A-game at the Italian Open. They began their campaign with a commendable 6-3, 6-3 victory against Vega Hernandez and Cressy in the first round. They pulled off a major upset in the next round, getting the better of third seeds Dodig and Krajicek before beating McDonald/Tiafoe 7-5, 7-6 in the quarter-finals to progress to the semis.
The pair form an impressive doubles team and have been in really good form. They notably finished as runners-up in the Australian Open earlier this year. The duo have shown good form and consistency throughout the season and they will be confident that they can cause an upset in the semis. It remains to be seen if they can continue their dream run and go all the way to clinch the title in Rome.
Zeballos and Granollers’ form coming into the match
Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers are an experienced doubles pair and have been in decent touch this season. They started their Italian Open campaign with a bang, defeating fifth seeds Pavic/Mektic in a thrilling encounter decided by the third set tie-breaker.
The Argentine-Spanish duo then got the better of Shelton/Evans in straight sets 6-1, 7-6. In the quarter-finals, they pulled off a major upset against 2nd seeds Ram/Salisbury to set up a semi-final clash against Zielinski and Nys. Zeballos and Granollers have both experience and form on their side which makes them a really formidable pair. However, they will have to be at the top their game in order to have any chance of going all the way and winning the title.

Head to head and Predictions
Zielinski/Nys and Zeballos/Granollers have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head-to-head clash between the two pairs. On paper, Zeballos/Granollers are the favourites both in terms of experience and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the in-form promising duo of Zielinski/Nys and they are expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close match with Zeballos/Granollers eventually winning in three sets.
