No.3 seed Daniil Medvedev will lock horns with fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Semi-finals of the Italian Open
Daniil Medvedev is having a great season and has already won 4 titles on the ATP tour – ATP Rotterdam, the Qatar Open, the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Miami Open. Medvedev’s consistency is his greatest strength, and, on his day, he just comes across as invincible. The Russian has maintained his ruthless form at the Italian Open in Rome and is now all set for the crucial semi-final encounter against Tsitsipas.
The third seed has been in ominous touch in the tournament and has dropped only one set so far. He began his campaign with a comfortable victory over Emil Ruusuvuori and then registered a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Spain’s Zapata Miralles.
The Russian star continued his magical run in the next rounds to get the better of Alexander Zverev and Yannick Hanfmann. The job gets tougher now against his rival Tsitsipas but Medvedev will have his eyes set on winning his fifth title of the year.
Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a frustrating season so far, failing to win any silverware despite playing some good Tennis. He began the year with a commendable runners-up finish at the Australian Open and once again lost in the final of the Barcelona Open last month. He has come to Rome at the back of a quarter-final exit from the Madrid Open. The Greek star is desperate to win a title and break the jinx for the remainder of the season.
Tsitsipas has been pretty dominant so far at the Italian Open. The No.5 seed is yet to drop a set in the tournament and looks in sublime touch. He began his campaign with a comprehensive victory against Nuno Borges and followed it up with another straight-sets win over Lorenzo Sonego. In the Round of 16, Tsitsipas beat Lorenzo Musetti and followed it up with another comprehensive win against Borna Coric in the quarter-finals to set up an exciting clash against Medvedev.
