The World No. 4 – Carlos Alcaraz made light work of Federico Coria as the talented Spaniard won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1, 7-5 at the historical Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Carlos Alcaraz played a near-perfect game against an opponent who defeated him a couple of years back at the Rio Open. The third seed earned his 46th win of the season and has now tied Stefanos Tsitsipas for the ATP Tour lead.
Alcaraz won 107 points compared to the 79 that his opponent won. The Spaniard didn’t give his opponent an inch and won the match in two hours and ten minutes. A slight cause of concern for Alcaraz would be the 25 unforced errors that he committed.
The 19-year-old reached the quarterfinals last year at Flushing Meadows. This year, he has been in sparkling form, having bagged four titles thus far, and he will be hoping to go deeper into the competition. In the third round, he will take on America’s Jenson Brooksby.
This will be the first encounter between Brooksby and Alcaraz. The former won his first match against Dusan Lajovic when the Serbian retired while trailing 0-3 in the third set after being outplayed in the first two sets.
In the next match, Brooksby defeated Cincinnati Masters champion Borna Coric in straight sets to punch his ticket to the third round.
Coming back to the Alcaraz-Coria encounter, the Argentine’s unique outfit became a huge talking point among the fans.
Here’s a look at how tennis fans reacted to Federico Coria’s unique outfit which he wore during his match against Carlos Alcaraz.
