“It’s probably up there at the top” – Conor McGregor’s coach Owen Roddy claims win over Donald Cerrone ranks as one of the best

Owen Roddy, Conor McGregor’s striking coach, spoke about the Donald Cerrone fight with Ariel Helwani

Conor McGregor’s striking coach Owen Roddy spoke on a range of topics with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently.

The discussion mainly surrounded around McGregor’s triumphant return to the Octagon as he defeated Donald Cerrone easily.

The fight was won in 40 seconds with McGregor using his shoulders to good use. Roddy was asked if he taught the Irishman the move, but the coach claimed that all the credit goes to the fighter.

Roddy also rubbished rumours of the match being fixed, given the nature of the win, and claimed this was one of McGregor’s best performances:

“It’s probably up their at the top, Ariel. You know just to see what Conor’s come through over the past year, and then to see the work he has put in.”

Roddy added that McGregor was putting in a lot of work before the fight and was pleased to see it all come off in the end:

“Not only in the training camp but before the training camp, all the strength and conditioning.

“Its great to see it all come together and put on the performance he did. So yeah, it’s probably up there in the top performances.”

The next big question was who will McGregor fight next. Roddy claimed that a fight against Jorge Masvidal would be great but the coach was confident that the Irishman could defeat anyone easily.

McGregor has also spoken about taking up another fight soon, and it will be interesting to see who he faces next.

The Irishman looked great in the Octagon and it was a surprise seeing Cerrone lose out like that.

However, McGregor’s strikes carried a lot of force as Cerrone ended up with a fractured nose and an orbital bone from the fight.
