Draper was born in Sutton, London on 22 December 2001 and brought up in nearby Ashtead. His father, Roger Draper is the former chief executive of Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association. Jack’s mother is Nicky Draper, and she is a former junior British Tennis Champion. Born in a tennis family, Draper had the sport in his genes and began playing at a very early age.
Draper attended Parkside School in Stoke d’Abernon, Cobham from age four to eleven and he was coached by Justin Sherring. He would then attend Reed’s School, Cobham for a couple of years.
Draper made it to the junior finals at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. He lost to Tseng Chun-hsin in a three-set encounter.
In 2021, Draper made his debut on the ATP Tour. His ATP main draw debut in singles came at the 2021 Miami Open where he was given a wildcard. However, his first-round match against Mikhail Kukushkin came to a scary end when he collapsed on the court from heat-related illness.
At the Queen’s Club Championships, Draper secured a huge win as he defeated the then world No. 23 Jannik Sinner. Draper, who entered the tournament as the wildcard defeated Alexander Bublik in the following round. He lost to Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals.
The southpaw received another wildcard and this time he played in the main draw at the Wimbledon Championships. He was drawn against the defending champion Novak Djokovic in the first round. The youngster bagged the first set with a solid performance but the veteran bounced back to win the match in four sets.
Draper has improved his stats substantially in 2022. He won 4 Challenger titles in the year. His first title came at the 2022 Citta di Forli II, which is a Challenger event held in Forli. Draper entered the tournament as the eighth seed and went the distance. His first Masters 1000 match win came at the Miami Open where he defeated the experienced Gilles Simon as a wildcard. Draper broke into the top 100 on 13 June 2022 and sat at No. 99 in the rankings.
Draper’s first semi-final appearance on the ATP Tour came in Eastbourne. He eventually lost to Maxime Cressy in the semifinals.
The 20-year-old received direct entry into the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time at the 2022 Wimbledon. He also secured his first win at a Grand Slam by defeating Zizou Bergs.
In the Canadian Open, Draper produced a huge upset by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round. The Greek youngster was ranked No. 5, and this was Draper’s first top-10 win. He eventually lost in the quarterfinals.
At the 2022 US Open, Draper made it to the third round at a major for the first time in his career. He became the first Briton to qualify for the 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals.
Draper has won 19 tour-level singles matches till now and lost 15. He is currently ranked 41, which is his best ranking till now. He reached the ranking on 7 November 2022.
