Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will return for its sophomore season on Amazon Prime Video starting November 1. John Krasinski reprises his role as Jack Ryan, an action-thriller who follows an FBI agent tracking suspicious arms shipments in the jungle to uncover an international conspiracy.
The second season begins with Ryan (Krasinski) confronting forces in power in Venezuela as it experiences one of its most severe humanitarian crises. After being pulled into President Chavez’s counterattack plan, CIA field agent is placed on an international mission with fellow operatives.
Krasinski will be joined on-screen by Wendell Pierce reprising his role of James Greer and Noomi Rapace, best known for her performance as Harriet “Harry” Baumann from Game of Thrones, while Game of Thrones alumni Tom Wlaschiha and Jovan Adepo complete the main cast, alongside Francisco Denis and Cristina Umana joining newcomers to fill key supporting roles.
Carlton Cuse will return as showrunner and executive producer of Season Two, alongside Graham Roland, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller, Michael Bay, Allyson Seeger and Jeremy Renner as producers. John Hoogenakker, Abbie Cornish and Wendell Pierce have signed on as regular guest stars; Paramount Television and Skydance Television co-produce the series while DGA Award-winning director Dennie Gordon will direct three episodes.
Three years after its debut, Amazon Prime’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series returns for season two. As before, Jack Ryan finds himself on the run from new threats – this time though with help from an unexpected ally in tow.
Contrasting with its predecessor, which featured sharply self-contained episodes, these new ones appear to take on much grander ambition. Executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Prison Break) remain showrunners and executive producers on board with this project.
Krasinski will reprise his role as the titular character. The first trailer opens with him stating that Venezuela is one of the single most essential sources for oil resources before being informed by James Greer (The Wire and Treme vet Wendell Pierce) of Russia secretly shipping arms to Venezuela which appears to follow a pattern.
From there, our hero ventures to South America to locate weapons while also trying to evade an arrest warrant issued by the CIA that wants him extradited. Luckily, his former field partner Mike November (Michael Kelly) from Moscow’s CIA branch is on hand as support; Noomi Rapace from “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” joins as Harriet Baumann who can provide guidance.
After an unassuming first season, Jack Ryan has emerged as an international fixer. Taking on bank fraud in Venezuela and saving Eastern Europe from nuclear destruction – and yet there seems to be more coming his way this time.
John Krasinski returns as Jack Ryan and Wendell Pierce reprises his role as CIA station chief Jim Greer – but co-showrunners don’t intend for their character to simply be one-trick pony; rather they plan to expand it further with more complex storylines involving more characters as the series unfolds.
Pierce, best known as Detective Bunk Moreland on HBO’s The Wire, recently spoke with Digital Spy about his return to the series as well as what awaits him in terms of new projects and more.
He also discusses Jack Ryan Season 2, set to debut Friday, and shares how it feels to be part of a show that is receiving such positive reviews and quickly becoming one of Amazon’s more beloved original series.
At their panel at Comic-Con, Netflix announced the casting of Swedish actress Noomi Rapace as part of their cast. She first rose to prominence as Lisbeth Salander in film adaptations of Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy films; she’s also well-known for roles in Prometheus and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Currently, she’s filming Angel of Mine – about a mother who becomes convinced a young girl she meets may actually belong to her!
According to Executive Producers Michael Kelly (House of Cards) and Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel), Jack Ryan season 2 will see him being forced out of his comfort zone as a CIA analyst, sent all over the world chasing down an emerging terrorist who threatens a nuclear strike against America and its allies.
The first eight episodes of The Returned are set to air this August. Alongside Krasinski, other cast members include Wendell Pierce (James Greer) and Abbie Cornish (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri). Cornish will play Cathy Mueller.
Noomi Rapace will join the cast as German intelligence agent Harriet “Harry” Baumann – described as an intelligent, capable and infectiously charming professional who crosses paths with Jack Ryan in South America. She’s repped by CAA as well as Stella Harnstrom from Hirsch Wallerstein Management.
This season will find Jack and Jim investigating an evil South American dictatorship, joined by Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers), Jordi Molla (Genius), Cristina Umana (Narcos) and Francisco Denis (NCIS: Los Angeles). Additionally, Noomi Rapace will join them as Harriet Baumann from Germany; executive producers Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland will serve as co-showrunners of this season of Jack Ryan.
