In 2016, Murray was picked by the Denver Nuggets as the seventh overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft. He signed a rookie contract after finishing college at the University of Kentucky.
In December of the same year, he was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for October and November. Murray made his name in the 2019 season and averaged 18.2 points and 4.8 assists during the regular season and took the Nuggets to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. This was their best performance in the Playoffs since 2009.
