James David Bouknight is the 2021, Round 1, 11th overall draft pick by the Charlotte Hornets. Before being drafted by the Hornets, Bouknight was a student-athlete at the University of Connecticut.
Bouknight attended La Salle Academy in Manhattan, New York. As a junior, Bouknight averaged 17.4 points per game, leading his team to the New York Federation Class B state championship. He was consequently named the MVP of the tournament.
Bouknight then reclassified down and transferred to MacDuffie School in Granby, Massachusetts to gain more exposure. In his reclassified junior season, Bouknight was averaging 19.3 points, five rebounds, and two assists per game but unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending torn meniscus in his left knee.
In his senior year, Bouknight earned All-New England Preparatory School Athletic Council AA honors.
