The world No. 20 Nick Kyrgios takes on the Polish No. 2 Kamil Majchrzak in the round of 16 of the Japan Open on Thursday.
Nick Kyrgios
The Australian tennis pro has been in fine form as of late. After reaching the Wimbledon final, the 27-year-old bagged the title in the Citi Open. Kyrgios continued his rich vein of form in Flushing Meadows and managed to reach the quarterfinals for the first time at the event.
Kyrgios skipped the fifth edition of the Laver Cup before beginning his Japan Open campaign with a solid 6-3, 6-1 win against Taiwan’s Tseng Chun-hsin 6-3, 6-1. Kyrgios hit 9 aces and had a win percentage of 89 on the first serve as he outplayed the world No. 87.
Kamil Majchrzak
The 26-year-old made it to the semi-finals at the Maharashtra Open and the quarter-finals at the Geneva Open and the recently-concluded Sofia Open. Other than these outings, Majchrzak has not had too many memorable performances to take confidence from.
The world No. 121 defeated qualifier Sho Shimabukuro in straight sets on Tuesday. The scoreline was 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in favor of the Polish youngster. He will have to up his game by quite a few notches when he takes on an in-form Kyrgios.
Head-to-Head and Prediction
The head-to-head scoreline stands at 0-0 as Nick Kyrgios and Kamil Majchrzak have not faced each other as yet.
Prediction: Nick Kyrgios to win in straight sets.
