The experienced Alize Cornet will lock horns with Slovene No. 1 Tamara Zidansek in the quarter-finals of the Jasmin Open on Friday.
The French veteran came into the tournament on the back of a shock exit in the first round of the Slovenia Open last month. Cornet lost to Kaja Juvan in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The 2022 Australian Open quarter-finalist has managed a strong comeback at the Jasmin Open so far.
The 32-year-old began her campaign with a relatively easy win against Brazil’s Laura Pigossi. After winning a closely-contested first set, Cornet bageled Pigossi in the second to win the match 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. In the round of 16, Cornet put on a solid show against Harriet Dart to win the match 6-3, 6-4.
Like Cornet, Tamara Zidansek also came into the Jasmin Open on the back of a first-round exit in the previous tournament. In Zidansek’s case, the tournament was the Parma Open where she lost to Simona Waltert in straight sets.
In the round of 32 of the Jasmin Open, the Slovenian youngster defeated Marina Bassols Ribera in three sets. After losing the first set, Zidansek came back strongly to win the match 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. In the round of 16, the 24-year-old once again had to dig deep to win the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 against Anastasia Potapova to set up a date with Alize Cornet.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 1-0 in favor of the experienced campaigner from France. She defeated Zidansek in the third round of this year’s Australian Open in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Prediction: Alize Cornet to win in three sets.
