The world No. 2 Ons Jabeur locks horns with world No. 73 Claire Liu in the quarter-finals of the Jasmin Open on Friday.
The Tunisian superstar came into the tournament on the back of a stupendous run to the 2022 US Open final. She lost to Iga Swiatek in a highly anticipated encounter.
The 28-year-old began her campaign in the Jasmin Open with a comprehensive win against Ann Li. Jabeur won the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. In the round of 16, Jabeur made light work of Evgeniya Rodina. The 33-year-old Russian proved to be no match for the in-form Jabeur. Rodina lost the match in straight sets 1-6, 3-6 as Jabeur continued her rampaging run.
The 22-year-old had a disappointing Tallinn Open campaign, losing to Ann Li in the round of 32 in straight sets 2-6, 5-7. She has made a good comeback at the Jasmin Open so far.
In the round of 32, the American tennis pro blew away Ana Konjuh in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. In the round of 16, Liu defeated the 2022 Slovenia Open champion and current doubles No. 1 player Katerina Siniakova in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. She will have to bring her A-game to the fore against the hot favorite Ons Jabeur.
The head-to-head scoreline currently stands at 0-0 as Ons Jabeur and Claire Liu have not crossed paths as yet.
