In the early 1980s, Jean’s career as a co-driver took a back seat as he joined ‘Peugeot’ as the director of racing, recommended by ‘Peugeot’s CEO, Jean Boillot. Faced with financial troubles and image issues, Jean dedicated three years to restoring ‘Peugeot’s former glory. His efforts paid off when the company clinched two consecutive manufacturers’ ‘World Rally Championship’ titles in 1985 and 1986.
In 1993, Jean received an offer that would change the course of his career. ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ appointed him as the general manager of their racing division, making him the first non-Italian to hold such a prestigious position. Under his guidance, ‘Ferrari’ bounced back from a dry spell, securing victories and championships with renowned racer Michael Schumacher.
Jean’s tenure at ‘Ferrari’ proved remarkable, as the company bagged an unprecedented five consecutive ‘World Championships starting from 2000 to 2004, setting a new record in ‘Formula One’ history. In 2004, he was promoted to the position of CEO of ‘Ferrari,’ adding another feather to his cap.
