Jelena Ostapenko: Early Beginnings
Jelena’s father played professional football for FC Metalurh Zaporizhya. She started playing tennis at the age of 5. Her mother was a fan of Serena Williams while growing up. She was a good dancer as well but gave up dancing at the age of 12, to focus on tennis. She might have chosen to focus on tennis instead of dancing, but she credits her swift footwork to her years of dancing.
She won the singles event at the junior Wimbledon in 2014. As a result of her accomplishment, she moved up to rank 2 in the list of junior tennis players in the world.
