Jenson Button was a young prodigy through the ranks of karting, with a majestic performance in the 1991 British Cadet Karting Championship in which he won all 34 races.

He was British Open Karting Champion on three occasions and later became the youngest ever winner of the European Super A category.

His debut F1 season came in 2000 with Williams after Alessandro Zanardi terminated his two-year contract after an unsuccessful season. His season did not have any sparks, despite impressing in testing after which he had to make way for Juan Montoya.

Button moved to Benetton for 2001, which was soon to be Renault where he showed glimpses of his potential till he was replaced in 2003. In 2003, he was rescued by BAR-Honda, where he was teamed with Jacques Villeneuve. Villeneuve was stunned after being outperformed by Button, who went on to finish a brilliant third overall in the 2004 championship.

The biggest surprise came after his disaster with Honda, when he moved to Brawn GP led by Team Principal Ross Brawn. Button racked up the points to lead the standings all season long, winning the 2009 World Championship and helping secure the Constructors’ Championship for Brawn GP.

He shocked the world by moving to McLaren, where he impressed with team mate and fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton. In 2011, Sebastian Vettel dominated, as Button finished an impressive second overall in the championship. 

His last race was in 2017 when he returned to the cockpit for a final race at Monaco, substituting for Alonso in the McLaren powered by Honda.

Button was engaged to actress and singer Louise Griffiths before calling time on a five-year relationship in 2005. Button then married his long-time girlfriend and model Jessica Michibata from 2014 to 2015.

He is currently engaged to model Brittny Ward, with whom he has a son and a daughter. They all reside in Los Angeles.

Button joined Extreme E as driver and team owner for the 2021 season, apart from his broadcasting duties with Sky Sports.
