Here’s everything you should know about the prize money on offer at the 2023 Jiangxi Open
The Jiangxi International Women’s Tennis Open is a professional tennis tournament exclusively for female players, where the matches take place on outdoor hard courts. This sporting event occurs at the Nanchang Tennis Center, situated in Nanchang, Jiangxi province, China.
It’s also an integral part of the China Open Series. Notably, the top-performing Chinese players in the women’s singles category are eligible for a wild card entry into the China Open. In its initial two years, this tournament held a WTA 125K series status. However, starting from 2016, it transitioned to becoming a significant WTA Tour event, categorized under the International level.
This tournament features a formidable lineup of top-30 players, including Liudmila Samsonova (ranked 17th), Beatriz Haddad Maia (ranked 18th), and Veronika Kudermetova (ranked 19th), who are leading the competition. Unfortunately, the event did not take place in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was also absent in 2022 due to concerns related to the disappearance of Peng Shuai. In the most recent edition, Rebecca Peterson secured the championship by convincingly defeating a young Elena Rybakina with a dominating score of 6-2, 6-0. This marked only the second time Rybakina had reached a final in her career.
The Jiangxi Open is making its return in 2023 after a four-year absence since 2019. This year, the total prize money has increased to $259,303, marking a 3.72% rise from the 2019 edition. However, the champion of this year’s tournament will receive $34,228, which is 20.4% less than the prize Rebecca Peterson earned when she won the title in 2019.

In this edition of the Jiangxi Open, Liudmila Samsonova holds the distinction of being the top seed. She recently reached the final of the China Open, a WTA 1000 event, but unfortunately, she lost to Iga Swiatek. This marked her second runner-up finish at that level, as she was also the runner-up in the Canadian Open final, where she was defeated by Jessica Pegula in August. Following as the second seed is Veronika Kudermetova, who secured a victory at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo just a couple of weeks ago. As the third seed, we have Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the semifinals of the French Open in June, but her performance has been somewhat inconsistent since then.
Magda Linette is the fourth seed in this tournament. After her impressive semifinal run at the Australian Open, her performance seemed to taper off. She did, however, make it to the final of the Guangzhou Open, but she fell short against Wang Xiyu. Other notable players in the competition include Marie Bouzkova, Wang Xinyu, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and Zhu Lin.
