Mahal began his career in pro wrestling at the Martial Arts Fitness Center in Calgary. He made his debut in PMW as Raj Dhesi and Stampede Wrestling, where he trained with various WWE wrestlers.
The Modern Maharaja signed a WWE developmental contract with FCW in 2010 under the ring name Jinder Mahal and made his debut on television in 2011 in an episode of SmackDown.
In his first in-ring action, Mahal squared off against Vladimir Kozlov and defeated him. After that, he suffered his first loss in a tag-team match against Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston. Mahal also competed in a 41-man battle royal but was eliminated by Randy Orton in the final three.
Mahal, along with Drew McIntyre, interfered in Heath Slaters’ match against Brodus Clay. Thus making a new stable named 3MB. 3MB went on to win against Team Co-Bro and The Usos. They competed and interfered in many battles before Mahal was released by WWE in 2014.
He performed in Independent wrestling circuits and returned to WWE in a much-improved physique on July 27, 2016. Additionally, Mahal came with a new gimmick, “The Man of Peace”.
After interference from Mahal’s new allies, The Singh Brothers, the Modern Maharaja won a six-pack challenge to earn a title match for the WWE Championship.
At WWE Backlash, pay-per-view Mahal defeated Randy Orton to win the WWE Championship for the first time in his career, and he was also the 50th WWE Champion and the first of Indian descent.
Mahal had a title reign of 170 days, defeating Orton’s likes, Shinsuke Nakamura, and even challenged Brock Lesnar for the Universal Champion at Survivor Series. However, he lost his title to AJ Styles. Mahal also became the United States Championship by defeating Rusev at WrestleMania 34.
Mahal was out of WWE for a long time due to a knee injury, but before that, he also became the two-time 24/7 Champion.
After a nine-month absence, Mahal returned at Superstar Spectacle and started a feud with Drew McIntyre, which is going on for a long time, and at SummerSlam, Mahal lost to McIntyre.
