John Felix Anthony Cena is an American professional wrestler, actor, and former rapper as well. He is one of the all-time best wrestlers in WWE history, but in the recent past, Cena has not been seen much in the WWE. Is the retirement of John Cena near?
Cena is a sixteen-time world champion, but after becoming a free agent in WWE, his appearances have shortened quite a bit. He even missed Wrestle Mania 37, his first miss of a WrestleMania in nearly 20 years. He was also doing various movie projects for HBO.
Does WWE star John Cena have his retirement soon?
John Cena was out of WWE for quite some time and even missed the WrestleMania first. He was banished from the middle of the ring after Bray Wyatt defeated him at WrestleMania 36.
John finally made his return to the WWE Universe after a long hiatus of 15 months at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view on July 18, 2021, where he confronted the Universal Champion Roman Reigns after his win at the main event of the PPV.
Cena challenged him for the Universal Championship title at SummerSlam following that WWE announced the Summer of Cena tour, confirming that he has signed a 25 appearance deal.
At the Summer Slam, Reigns defeated Cena after a back and forth contest, but it was also marked the return of the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar, and as the show went off the air, Brock Lesnar delivered multiple German suplexes and an F-5 to Cena.
After this loss against Reigns did numerous interviews stating his retirement plans. While talking to ABC’s Good Morning America (h/t give me sport), Cena mentioned that he will try to do the best of his capabilities until the fans are offended. He said the energy in the ring is everything to him, and with the audience, it becomes more remarkable, he compared the ring as his home, and he won’t be anything without it
“You know, I think… and I’ve made this comment before, I think I will try to do the best I can until I feel as if I’m offending the consumer. A lot of times you want to kinda hold onto that lightning bolt. There is nothing like the energy of being in that ring with the audience around you. There’s nothing like it. I’ve had the fortune and opportunity to do a whole lot of stuff…. that energy is indescribable, that place is my home, I wouldn’t be who I am without it.”
He continued in the interview, stating that the audience is his family, and even after the loss against Reigns, he feels good. Cena will be contributing until the fans are comfortable seeing him, and time will tell about the retirement.
“The audience is my family, so I love the environment, but I also want to be kind to them and I don’t want to do it selfishly just to do it. I still feel good, even though I finished second, I still feel pretty good. So, I still feel as if I have something to contribute, so time will tell.”
Even though the actual date is yet to confirm but Cena has made it quite clear on his social media that after SummerSlam, the current run with WWE has ended as of now, but he has still not retired yet, and there is a high chance of him returning to the company soon. He is also busy doing the HBO Max series Peacemaker and has done pretty well as an actor. Additionally, Cena was recently featured in Suicide Squad.
